The future of Tokyo with SusHi Tech

TOKYOMay 06 (News On Japan) – In preparation for SusHi Tech Tokyo 2024, exhibitions highlighting sustainable technology for the future were held at various locations in Tokyo this weekend.

Aiming to tackle urban challenges such as traffic congestion and aging populations while creating a sustainable society, the exhibition brought together more than 120 cutting-edge technologies from around the world.

Among the exhibits were the “JobyS4 (flying taxi)”, with a length of approximately 13 meters, intended for practical use in the late 2020s, and the “Tsunaguruma (future festival float)”, designed for future festivals, which can be towed around . four adults with electrical assistance.

One participant noted, โ€œSome of the technologies on display here seem like they could be implemented and integrated into our daily lives.โ€

The venue also had an area where visitors could experience even more advanced technologies, including the ‘Fiberion’, a humanoid robot measuring approximately 2.5 meters tall and weighing 400 kilograms.

Equipped with devices attached to the arms, users can move the robot’s arms freely. It is said to also transform from humanoid to vehicle form…

Hirokazu Oji of the Hero Technology Research Institute noted, “It may have various applications such as disaster rescue due to its humanoid form, but its importance lies in its ability to transform into a car and drive itself to the location.”

Meanwhile, the event showcased the development of flying car simulators, which quickly evolved into practical use. Visitors could experience flying over Tokyo using VR technology.

Other attractions included a camera that could capture the entire body and create a 3D model, giving attendees visions of the future Tokyo.

Regarding the purpose of the event, the Tokyo Policy Planning Bureau, represented by Tomoyuki Yokoyama, said: โ€œWe hope that as technology evolves, people will gradually adopt sustainable initiatives in their daily lives. As a result, we want people to feel like the world is becoming a better place.”
