WASHINGTON โ Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani thanked his team for the support he has received since his longtime interpreter Ippei Mizuhara left the team over Mizuhara’s gambling scandal.
During a press conference before a game against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, he referred to the scandal, saying: โThe investigation itself is still ongoing, so it’s not all over yet.
โThere are many people, including my teammates and the team, who have supported me in this matter, so there are many occasions where I am grateful for that,โ he continued.
Dodgers’ employee Will Ireton now interprets for Ohtani at press conferences and other occasions, but Ohtani is said to be communicating increasingly directly with his teammates without an interpreter.
Ohtani also spoke about his newlywed life during the briefing. โBasically: us [the team] travel a lot on days off, so so far I haven’t had anything like a full day at home. [My wife and I] We’ve walked together and stuff, but we haven’t gone anywhere all day yet.โ About not being together during his away games, Ohtani said, “I want her to say she misses me.”
